Boca Raton, FL – April 13, 2017, Orthopaedic spine surgeon Jeffrey Goldstein, M.D., FACS, of New York, New York, U.S.A. was named President of the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery (ISASS) at the organization’s 2017 annual meeting in Boca Raton, Florida, U.S.A.
Dr. Goldstein has been a member of ISASS since 2002, and has served on the ISASS Board of Directors since 2011. He is Chief of the Spine Service for Education program and Director of the Spine Fellowship program, at NYU’s Langone Medical Center, Department of Orthopedics. He also is Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, NYU School of Medicine.
“ISASS’ is a growing international organization dedicated to spine surgery. ISASS is a surgical organization, for spine surgeons” said Dr. Goldstein.
“We will continue our efforts to advance the science and art of spine surgery and educate practitioners from around the world,” he continued.
“ISASS’ annual meeting has become the place where spine surgeons exchange ideas. I was interested in hearing the conversations between surgeons from six continents, as well as from surgeons from across the U.S.A.
“Each surgeon and scientist learns from another and shares new techniques and technologies with the goal of improving patient outcome.”
Dr. Goldstein looks forward to expanding opportunities for spine surgeons and scientists and industry collaborate, participate and contribute to the Society’s goal of improving the quality of life for spine surgery patients.
"My focus for this coming year will be to grow our membership, to complete consolidation of Society of Minimal Incision Spine Surgery (SMISS) and the Association of Collaborative Spine Research (ACSR) and to ensure we are offering relevant and necessary educational options for spine surgeons. I also will broaden our infrastructure to enable more of our members to become involved,” Dr. Goldstein concluded.”
ISASS - The International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery - Is the largest international society dedicated to spine surgery. ISASS is a global scientific and educational society organized to provide a venue to discuss and address the issues involved with all aspects of spine surgery care.The Society focuses on basic and clinical science and outcomes of spine surgery including motion preservation, minimally invasive procedures, stabilization, innovative technologies and techniques, biologics and other fundamental topics to restore and improve spine function for patients, surgeons, scientists, inventors and others. ISASS is dedicated to advancing significant evolutionary steps in spine surgery.The Society’s value as an umbrella organization is a top priority for Dr. Goldstein --events, publications, policy arms, and advocacy are all providing infrastructure and support to spine surgeonsand patients from regions around the globe.
Dr. Goldstein has distinguished himself as a researcher and innovator and has authored book chapters and presented numerous articles globally which are published in national and international scientific journals. He was the recipient of the Leon L. Wiltse Award for the Best Overall Paper at the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery (ISASS) meeting in 2009. He serves on the editorial and advisory boards of The Spine Journal, the ISASS scientific journal The International Journal of Spine Surgery, and the reviewer board for Spine. He has also instructed other surgeons globally on disc replacement surgery and minimally invasive techniques. Dr. Goldstein is involved in the research and development of biomedical materials and devices. He also serves in an advisory capacity to the news media and several medically oriented companies.
He is board certified in Orthopedic Surgery and is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Goldstein is a member of the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery, the North American Spine Society, the Cervical Spine Research Society, and the International Society for Study of the Lumbar Spine, the Scoliosis Research Society, the American Orthopaedic Association, and the Lumbar Spine Research Society. Dr. Goldstein earned his undergraduate degree from Colgate University. He attended medical school at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center at Brooklyn where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and graduated Summa Cum Laude with Distinction in Research. He was trained in Orthopaedic Surgery in Cleveland, Ohio at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Dr. Goldstein received additional fellowship training in the treatment of disorders of the spine at the Maryland Spine Fellowship.
Dr. Goldstein's surgical expertise includes degenerative diseases, deformity, trauma, tumors, and infections as well as newer minimally invasive approaches and disc replacement. He has been recognized by New York Magazine and Superdoctors as one of New York’s “Best Doctors” and by Castle Connolly as one of America’s Top Doctors. He has received the Patients’ Choice Award and America’s Most Compassionate Doctor Award.
